Migrating

I've been using the same Blogger service since 2003. But it's starting to lack some of the flexibility and SEO I'm after. I will be migrating djokibi.com over to a new Wordpress install in the next few weeks. No need to update your bookmarks, but you will have to subscribe to the new RSS feed once everything is switched over. Keep it locked!

UPDATE: If you've come to the old site by accident, the new site is http://djokibi.com.

Garde & Eames - Bricks LP [Free Download]

Via sub|division:
Bricks is packed with gritty warehouse damage, seething 4/4 dance music built for 3am dancefloors. Garde & Eames have been working on this album for much of the second half of 2011, the result of some late night sessions with some analog toys. A few of these tunes popped up on their Futureproofing mix for Andrew Ryce a couple months back, most notably the unrelenting “Hardchop” & the astral groove of “Ghostjackin”. Now we finally have the whole batch to enjoy, plus a lush pdf of pics to accompany said heat...

Okibi - Swag Selection Vol. 1

Swag Selection Vol. 1 is an impromptu mixset of grimey, bass-heavy hip-hop and juke beats. Selected by Okibi, with an eclectic assortment of cuts, including artists such as Drake, Wheez-ie and Africa Hitech, Swag Selection Vol. 1 is a half hour mix of proper brukout business. Crank this one up while you're driving slow. Got nuff swag? Download via the Union Sound System podcast.

The Weeknd - The Knowing

Here's the first official music video from The Weeknd, and it's definitely not what I expected it to be. The whole film seems to be an allusion to the usurping of H.I.M. Selassie I and his loss of power in Ethiopia - except with aliens and spaceships and planets rending into two. The female character seems to represent Ethiopia, with The Weekend playing the part of H.I.M. Selassie I. The cut and paste, sliding, animated visuals make for a really, really unique video. It's not for everyone, but it's definitely original.

ASAP Rocky - Purple Swag

Really feeling the beats coming out of the A$AP camp. 'Purple Swag' rolls along real, real slow. Check it.

Broodlings - Fading [Free Download]

I'm a big fan of Embassy Recordings out of Atlanta. Managed by Mite and Distal, they've managed to crank out some serious releases from Clicks & Whistles, Wheez-ie, and more. Here's some juke-flavoured footwork business from Broodlings. Free download via XLR8R.

BADBADNOTGOOD - Fall In Love

Here's a wicked cover of J Dilla's 'Fall In Love' beat, by Canadian live hip-hop outfit, BADBADNOTGOOD. Can't get enough of these guys. Really feeling the neo soul and jazz vibes now that winter is pretty much here.

Electric Dreams - 12 November 2011

Union Sound System presents... Electric Dreams with AUTOMATON (live set), Joey Chaos (live set), Phrase (dubwise DJ set) and myself (hip-hop DJ set). Tickets available now at Mavens Vintage. Checkout the Facebook event page for more details.

Orbital - Never

Yes yes, the first fresh Orbital joint is out since reuniting after their breakup in 2004. Tunes like "Halcyon and On and On" were pretty much life changing the first time I heard them. This one isn't quite up to that level, but the lush melodies and simple video make for a pretty enjoyable experience. I'm excited to see what else surfaces over the next few months.

BADBADNOTGOOD x Tyler, The Creator - Seven

All about the jam sessions. Feeling the bleak live beats and Tyler's signature style. Check it!
