Electric Dreams - 12 November 2011

Union Sound System presents... Electric Dreams with AUTOMATON (live set), Joey Chaos (live set), Phrase (dubwise DJ set) and myself (hip-hop DJ set). Tickets available now at Mavens Vintage. Checkout the Facebook event page for more details.

Self Evident - Look In Your Eyes

Here's a recent cut off the recent Future of Bass Vol. 1 compilation put together by HxdB. 'Look In Your Eyes' is a forward-thinking dubstep cut from Vancouver-native, Self Evident. Purple vibes and an echoed out Alborosie vocal sample, paired with stripped-down drum work, makes for a solid and versatile tune. Available now on Gradient.

Dreadsteppas - Live! At VEMF 2011

Thanks to the LiveLab crew, those of you that missed the Dreadsteppas set at the Victoria Electronic Music Festival this year can stream the entire thing - with video! Lots of turntablism, effects, and three deck mixing in this one. Check it out! (Note: The audio cuts out for a few minutes at the beginning. Fast forward to 8:45 or so to get to the good stuff.)

VEMF 2011 Recap

What an amazing weekend! I witnessed some amazing sets from Kastle, Egyptrixx, and a slew of great locals. Also had the pleasure of chatting with Kastle (thanks for the stickers) and DJ Klever. My mainstage set with the Dreadsteppas on Sunday went off without a hitch - coaxed the sun out of the clouds with some summery drum and bass. We've been receiving tons of positive feedback. So much love! I haven't felt this inspired in awhile. Big ups everyone for the support! Also, be sure to checkout the new Union Sound System website. I just put a total redesign into it. Big tings a'gwan!

Dear Dreamer Apparel

Rockin' some fresh swag from local streetwear outfit, Dear Dreamer Apparel. These guys are making some serious waves out here and have some new designs set to drop pretty quick. Everyone at Union Sound System is stoked to be working with them. Keep it locked for big things from both camps.

1000 Posts and VEMF 2011

Well it only took seven and a half years, but I finally passed the 1000 post mark. This blog has definitely matured from its humble, adolescent beginnings. I'm receiving more hits than ever, and my hope is that I have exposed some people to some great music in the last few years. That's what this blog is all about - good tunes!

On the topic of good tunes, this years Victoria Electronic Music Festival (July 30-31) is shaping up to be bigger than ever. Artists such as Kastle and DJ Klever have already been announced, and there's more to come. The Dreadsteppas (Dezine, Spoon, and I) will be playing the mainstage at noon on Sunday (July 31). We'll be rinsing out some big bass business and handing out some serious free swag - don't miss out! Check the Facebook event page for more info.

Dreadsteppas w/ Deception at Hush - 6 July 2011

Another Dreadsteppas takeover at Hush Nightclub this Wednesday! Deception joins us this round for an all vinyl special. Expect a lot of classic liquid funk, ragga jungle, jump up, and techstep (maybe even some early dubstep business!) Proper bass music all night, only $5 cover and drink specials in effect. More details on the Facebook event page.

Andy C at Touch Lounge - 23 June 2011

This one is going to be huge! The man like Andy C, RAM Records founder and absolute drum and bass legend, touches down at Touch Lounge in Victoria. Should be a bangin' night, especially with MC GQ on the mic and some bass reinforcement from Peel Environments. Local support from Outsider - you need to be there! More details on the Facebook event page. Tickets available at Whitebird Lounge and Lyle's Place. Where the junglists at?

Julio Bashmore at Lucky Bar - 17 June 2011

Super stoked for this one! Julio Bashmore tomorrow night at Lucky Bar. This guy's output has been fantastic, just checkout tunes like Battle For Middle You. Only $7 before 11PM - be there!
Via sub|division:

One of dance music’s key figures steps up to Lucky Bar’s stage this Friday: Julio Bashmore, the man behind some of the most epic house tracks of the last couple years. With releases via Dirtybird, Ten thousand Yen & his own FutureBoogie imprint, dude is on fiyah. This jam is only $7 before 11pm, so get in there!
Tickets available online here.

St. Kelly - Days Like Today

Here's a summer jam from a few years back by my boy, St. Kelly. Anyone from the Westshore will know this one. Haven't heard much in the way of verses from St. Kelly lately, but he's been producing for some big names from across the border. This is off his debut album, Tip of the Iceberg, self released in 2006. Pretty sure you can still cop it in and around Victoria.

There's no place quite like the Pacific Northwest. The ocean keeps me sane - true story.
